GHS Unified Basketball team begins first season in May
The Gloversville High School Unified Basketball team is gearing up for the start its inaugural season.
Practices for the team will begin in April leading up to the start of its regular season in May. The first home game of the season will be May 15 against Glens Falls. Tip off is at 4:15 p.m.
Approximately 30 players and Youth Activation Committee members, who are planning activities and assisting the team, are involved with the Unified Sports Program. The team’s coach is Molly Swan and the YAC advisor is Andy Slezak.
Among the activities the committee has undertaken so far is the “Spread the Word to End the Word” campaign, though which the students are encouraging people not to use the “r-word.”

Unified sports is an interscholastic sports program that is a partnership between Special Olympics NY and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. It’s part of the Special Olympics Project Unify. Other local schools GHS will play against this season include Fort Plain, South Glens Falls, Queensbury and Hudson Falls.
