District mourns death of former student; counseling services available
The Gloversville Enlarged School District community is saddened by the recent death of Brandon DiMartino, a former Gloversville student.
“The loss of a young person is extremely difficult, and our sincere condolences go out to Brandon’s family, friends and the entire community,” Gloversville Superintendent of Schools Michael B. Vanyo said. “Our school professionals are here to provide support in any way they can.”
Counseling services at Gloversville High School will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, and when classes resume on Monday, April 24. Counseling resources also are available at The Family Counseling Center of Fulton County, 11-21 Broadway, Gloversville, by calling 725-4310. You can also contact St. Mary's Mental Heath at 843-7520.
The death of a peer is a difficult and challenging situation that can generate anxiety and distress in some students. Students may be affected by this tragedy even if he or she did not know Brandon well. The district encourages parents and guardians to talk to their children about what has happened. Discussing thoughts and feelings about death is an important part of helping children work through their grief.
