DeLilli appointed as interim superintendent

The Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education has appointed former Johnstown Superintendent Robert DeLilli to serve as interim superintendent beginning July 1.Robert DeLilli

The board approved the appointment during its regular meeting Tuesday, May 9. DeLilli will begin work in Gloversville when current Superintendent Michael Vanyo leaves the position June 30 to take the top spot at Ichabod Crane Central School.

DeLilli retired in February after five years as the leader of the Greater Johnstown School District. For four years prior to that, from 2007 to 2011, he served as the Gloversville superintendent. His experience also includes a stint as the superintendent/principal for the Wheelerville Union Free School District and more than 15 years as a middle school social studies teacher there.

Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES conducted the search for the interim superintendent on behalf of the district, receiving nine applications that were then shared with the Gloversville board. Board of Education President Richard Carlson said DeLilli’s application immediately rose to the top, and the board worked to draft a contract with him.

Carlson pointed to DeLilli’s experience with Johnstown’s recent school reconfiguration and capital projects as positives of bringing him on board during this time of transition.

“Rob is very familiar with the district and the community, as well as the kinds of initiatives we are in the midst of. We are fortunate to be able to draw on that experience in the short term,” Carlson said.
With DeLilli in place as the interim, the school district will look to open a search for a permanent superintendent this summer.
