GESD science educator takes on role as principal of Kingsborough Elementary School

Educator Trisha Bobowski started the new year in a new position with the Gloversville Enlarged School District. She was appointed principal of Kingsborough Elementary School by the Board of Education during its meeting in December. Bobowski replaces Kimberly Ross who recently accepted the position as the district’s Director of Student Support Services.

Prior to Gloversville, she taught at Colegio Huascaran in Peru, South America for a short time, and at St. Mary’s School in Rensselaer for a year.

Bobowski attended the College of Saint Rose, earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in Earth Science, and followed up with a master's degree in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology from the State University of New York at Albany. She then earned her Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in School Building Leadership in December 2016 and School District Leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh in May 2017. Bobowksi is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at SUNY Albany.

Bobowski said she chose a career in education because she enjoys working with children and making a positive impact on their lives.

“My role as a teacher has taught me that every child is different,” she said. “As a principal it will always be important for me to remember that, and to realize they are all special in their own ways.”

She looks forward to the challenges her new role will bring, the opportunity to meet new people, and of course, getting to see all the smiling faces of Kingsborough students every day.

Bobowski and her husband, Gareth, have two sons, Garrett and Colton; a dog, Precious; and a cat named Dottie.

In her free time, she enjoys camping and spending time with her family. She is also an avid runner, and especially likes participating in races with her family. “I ran the New York City marathon twice,” she said. “Another favorite race is Ragnar Adirondacks, which is an overnight relay from Saratoga to Lake Placid that I run with a group of friends.”

One of her personal favorite reads is “Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum; but she added that the story, “I Love You Stinky Face” by Lisa McCourt, was a favorite book to read to her boys when they were younger.
