Interested in serving on the Board of Education? Three seats up for election in May

Nominating petitions are currently available for individuals interested in serving on the Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education. Three seats will be up for election on Tuesday, May 15, which is the same day as the school budget vote.

The GESD Board of Education consists of nine members who are elected by district residents. Each member serves an unpaid, three-year term. The board is responsible for establishing policies and regulations governing public education in the district.

To run for a seat on the Board and be listed on the May 15 ballot, candidates must file a nominating petition with the District Clerk. Those interested in running for this important role may pick up a nominating petition at the district’s Business Office, located at 234 Lincoln Street in Gloversville. Completed petitions must be turned in to the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on April 25, 2018.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, qualified voters in the school district, and have resided in the district for at least one year before the election.

The three elected to the Board will begin their terms on July 1 and serve through June 30, 2021.

Polls will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at two sites: the Gloversville High School gymnasium and at Bleecker Town Hall. Voting information is available here.
