Gloversville names Top 10 students of the Class of 2018

The following students have been named as the Top 10 in the Class of 2018. Congratulations!

picture of Class of 2018 Top 10 studentAlyssa Henley is the valedictorian of the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of John and Stacy Henley. Alyssa is president of National Honor Society. She is an athlete in swimming and diving, and tennis, and is a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar Athlete. She holds both diving records for GHS. Alyssa participates in Key Club, Masterminds, and Fulton County Pie Girls. She was the recipient of the Engineering and Computer Science Leadership Scholarship from Syracuse University, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Medal, and Brown University Book Award. She will attend Syracuse University in the fall to study aerospace engineering.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Kristina Fosmire is the salutatorian of the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of Sara and Frank Fosmire . Throughout her high school career, Kristina has consistently made her academics a priority. In addition to her scholastic achievements, Kristina has proven to be a leader amongst her peers and continuously seeks opportunities to make meaningful connections with those around her while making a positive impact on her school and community. She has served as the Key Club president, a student board member, the Yearbook Editor, a member of the National Honor Society Executive Committee, a member of the Student Liaison Committee, a peer mentor, and a member of the Fulton County Pie Girls. In her junior year, Kristina was awarded the RIT Computing Medal to recognize her commitment and achievement in the Project Lead the Way Engineering program. She plans to major in architecture and combine her two true passions: art  and engineering. Kristina will attend Syracuse University in the fall where she received the university’s Distinguished Portfolio Award.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Elizabeth Ashe is graduating third in the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of Jeff and Stacy Ashe. In her junior year, Elizabeth was presented the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Innovation and Creativity Award for her involvement as a leader in the community and her commitment to a rigorous academic course load. Elizabeth has been a dedicated member of the varsity tennis team, National Honor Society,and the National Technical Honor Society. As a junior, Elizabeth developed a strong interest in the medical field and pursued the opportunity to enroll in the New Visions program in her senior year. She is incredibly passionate about her time spent at Nathan Littauer Hospital where she discovered her future career path. Elizabeth will attend Utica College and is the recipient of the college's Presidential Scholarship. She plans to major in nursing and become a nurse anesthetist.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Rebecca McCall is graduating fourth in the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of John and Mary McCall. Rebecca is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Masterminds, and Scitamard Drama Club. She is the student board member alternate and a student liaison member. She is a very active member of community theater, a youth ministry leader, and a choral member at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Rebecca is the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, and in her junior year, she received a merit scholarship from the University of Rochester and the LeMoyne College “In the Heights” Award. Rebecca will be attending the University of Rochester to study English literature.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Gabrielle Langley is graduating fifth in the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of York and Amy Langley. Gabrielle is a member of National Honor Society, student government association, and is a Bridges mentor. She is an active member of GHS athletics, playing on both the basketball and softball teams. Gabrielle has earned a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar Athlete, and is an Academic Titan. She is a member of the Unified Sports Team, volunteers for the GHS Halloween nights, Gloversville Family Fun Nights, and the Teeing Off to Cancer golf tournament. Gabrielle will attend the College of Saint Rose in the fall to study psychology. She aspires to become a mental health counselor.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Maria Danise is graduating sixth in the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of Vincent and Valerie Danise. In her junior year, she was awarded the St. Lawrence University Book Award for her academic excellence and her commitment to community service. Maria’s true love lies in the performing arts. Each year she has been actively involved in Scitamard Drama Club, concert band, symphonic band, jazz band, select choir, All County Choir, Jazz Fest, and Glove Community Music Ensembles. She was selected to be a member of the New York State School Music Association. In addition, Maria has participated in Odyssey of the Mind, Key Club, Bridges mentoring, student government, National Honor Society and Masterminds. Maria will attend the State Uiversity of New York (SUNY)  Oneonta in the fall to pursue a career in the music industry.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Reanna Stewart  is graduating seventh in the Class of 2018. She is the daughter of Midge McChesney and Jeffrey Stewart. As a junior, Reanna was the recipient of the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award. She has a strong interest in the medical field and enrolled in the New Visions program in her senior year. Reanna is currently the president of student government, a member of the Key Club, National Honor Society, and she is a volunteer with the Unified Sports program. Outside of school, Reanna volunteers as a candy striper at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Reanna was awarded the Alan and Jane Handler Scholarship from the University of Rochester, which is the university’s leading award. It provides assured, complete financial support, as well as individual and group opportunities, for the duration of the regular four-year academic program. Reanna will study cell and developmental biology at the University of Rochester in the fall to one day become an oncologist.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Jennifer Vickery is graduating eighth in the class of 2018. She is the daughter of Matt and Lisa Vickery. Jennifer has been a star athlete at GHS, participating in varsity softball, swimming, field hockey and indoor track. She was a varsity softball and Swim First Team Foothills All-Star, and was consistently named a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar Athlete. Outside of athletics, Jennifer is a member of the National Honor Society and the yearbook club. She also is a member of the Miss Scotties Club Softball team. She is the recipient of the Student Sage Award and is an Academic Titan. Jennifer will attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall, where she will pursue the computer exploration program.

picture Top 10 student GHS Class of 2018Jared Malagisi is graduating ninth in the Class of 2018. He is the son of Frank and Lisa Malagisi. Jared is a member of the National Honor Society, track and football teams. He is a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar Athlete, a National Football Foundation scholar athlete, and a College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete. Jared also participates in the Unified Sports program at GHS. Jared will attend Utica College in the fall to study physical therapy.

In her junior year, Devina was awarded the University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award for her leadership, dedication to the community, and her impressive grades. In her time at GHS, Devina has been involved in National Honor Society, Key Club, varsity tennis, student government and the Fulton County Pie Girls. Devina will attend Binghamton University to major in biology to one day become a veterinarian.
