Most recently, during its October meeting, the Gloversville Board of Education presented a letter of commendation to the eighth-grader in recognition of his selfless and heartfelt act, and for representing the district with responsibility, respect and pride.
It all began when Luke noticed a man in medical distress outside the local Cumberland Farms in mid-September. He quickly jumped into action, alerting his mother who is trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and she began administering the life-saving procedure. Thanks to Luke and his mom, when emergency responders arrived on the scene, the paramedics were able to find a pulse and rush the man to the hospital.
According to Luke, the biggest reward of all was when he and his mom had an opportunity to meet the man whose life they saved. Luke said that was special. You can see his heartwarming reunion with the man on WNYT Newschannel 13. View Newschannel 13 story
