Boulevard Elementary School collection delivers needed supplies for shelter animals

Boulevard Elementary students and staff came through in a big way for homeless animals at the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society in Gloversville.

The fifth-grade Student Council recently organized a drive to collect much-needed items for the animal shelter. The students collected dog food, cat food, cat litter, toys, towels, blankets and laundry detergent over two and half weeks to donate to the shelter.

Grade 5 teacher Jean Furnia said students brainstormed the idea to collect supplies for the local animal shelter in January. “I am really proud of the Student Council members,” she said. “This was the first drive they organized, and it was a wonderful success.”

The students delivered several boxes filled with the donated food and supplies to the Humane Society at the end of February, and had an opportunity to visit with some of the cats and kittens.
