Boulevard Student Council works to improve, inspire and beautify their school

The Student Council at Boulevard Elementary School has accomplished many great initiatives this year – and it’s only November!

Two students from every class have participated in student council meetings each month with Ms. Beerle in the art room before the school day begins. The Student Council members, who are in third to fifth grade, are working together to improve, inspire, and/or beautify their school!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, students recently wrote thank you notes to secretaries, guidance counselor and custodians ‒ school staff who may not always be thanked for the important job they do. The students also painted ceramic turtles for each individual they recognized with a thank you note.

To start the day off on a positive note, Student Council members decorated lockers with inspirational messages to surprise their classmates as they arrived at school. The Student Council gave out small gems to students who were caught doing something kind for others. The kind-acting student could then return the gem to Ms. Beerle for a special surprise!

Student Council members wrote messages in holiday cards that will be sent to service members who cannot be with their families for the holiday season. They also decorated the cafeteria with an uplifting “Today will be great!” banner.

The Student Council also chose an employee to interview and created a board display with a photograph of the employee next to a write-up of the interview. Student Council members also worked on a mural that will be installed in the cafeteria.

Another new project is “Talented Tuesday” where Student Council members interview a student who has a talent that they want to share with the school. Videos of the “Talented Tuesday” students then are shown during the monthly PBIS assemblies.
