DEC visits Kingsborough Elementary School following fire at nearby mill

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has visited the Kingsborough Elementary School following last weekend’s fire that destroyed a vacant leather mill located nearby. The DEC checked the school campus to determine if ash from the fire posed any safety concerns. The DEC has given the building a clean bill of health, per the Environmental Protection Agency. In an abundance of caution, however, the district is waiting for the NYS Department of Health to provide additional assurances before allowing students to have outdoor recess.
