Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
As Superintendent of Schools, it is my pleasure to announce that the Gloversville Enlarged School District has secured an arrangement with the City of Gloversville to provide free transportation for all current GESD students on the Gloversville Transit System (GTS). This arrangement becomes effective on Monday, October 1, 2018 and is good for all trips within the city, regardless of destination. Students may wait for buses at any current designated city bus stop, and may also flag down the city bus between stops when in need of transport. Please understand the city bus has a designated route and drivers will not deviate to accommodate specific destination requests that are off the prescribed route. GESD students may also use GTS free of charge to reach the YMCA on Harrison Street in the Town of Johnstown.
The City of Gloversville Transit Department has an excellent service and safety record. All bus drivers are in good standing with New York State Department of Transportation health and training requirements. The fleet of buses are well maintained and all are equipped with video and audio recording equipment. Free ridership on city buses is a privilege exclusive to GESD students and we ask all to respect and abide by all rules and regulations set by GTS. Failure to comply will result in this privilege being revoked.
The Gloversville Enlarged School District is happy to provide this opportunity to our students/families, and we sincerely thank Gloversville Mayor Dayton King, Transit Manager Brent Warren and Councilman-at-Large Vincent Desantis for their support and efforts in seeing this opportunity come to fruition.
Students in pre-k through 2nd grade must be accompanied by a parent/guardian while on GTS and the school district will cover parent/guardian rider fees for students in these grades as well.
Information on bus routes, designated stops and schedules is being sent home in a letter, and can also be obtained at www.ride-gts.com or by calling Gloversville Transit at 518-773-4528.
Sincerely
David Halloran
