A local couple has donated more than $4,000 worth of musical instruments to the Gloversville Enlarged School District.

Recently, Michael and Susan Brown decided to sell their home in Scotia and downsize. With a summer home in nearby Pine Lake and a friend who works at the Boulevard Elementary School, they thought the GESD would be a perfect new home for their drums and other percussion instruments.

The donation included three full drum kits, including a 1962 Gene Krupa model Slingerland drum set.

Michael Brown said he first learned to play drums when he was 11 years old and used the instruments over the years playing professionally with various bands. While he eventually entered the IT profession, he continued playing music but now needs to downsize. Susan Brown is a retired school social worker for Capital Region BOCES.

Music teacher Ann Trojan says the instruments will be used by the Boulevard Fourth Grade Band, the Fifth Grade Band, the afterschool Fifth Grade Band Club and by student musicians at the middle and high schools.
