GMS teacher named President of the Fulton County Historical Society Board of Directors

Gloversville Middle School educator Marcia Gillis has been named President of the Fulton County Historical Society Board of Directors.

The 8th grade social studies teacher has made it her goal to involve students in the discovery of, and appreciation for, their local history. She has incorporated museum exhibits and events into her curriculum, such as “Haunted History Night,” which was attended by 40 students. She has also scheduled a year-end event that will feature 8th grade visits to the Museum.

“On behalf of our middle school teachers and staff, I congratulate Marcia on her appointment as president of the historical society. This is an ongoing example of Gloversville Middle School’s connection with the community,” said GMS Principal Mark Batty. “We look forward to future collaborative events that will familiarize our students with local history.”
