Sexual Assault Incident at Gloversville Middle School

Good evening,

This morning at 7:35 am, a Gloversville middle school student reported being sexually assaulted by an adult male while walking up Spring Street onto district property.

Working closely with the Gloversville Police Dept through their School Resource Officer, John Bellamy, we quickly determined the report was credible and an all out police investigation ensued.

A suspect was quickly identified and measures were taken to keep the public safe from this perceived threat until he was apprehended and charged this evening.

Our student who was victimized is a strong young lady and has our support and prayers. Let’s all respect her privacy, as we collectively process such a brazen, deplorable act.

In my brief tenure with the school district my confidence in our relationship with the Gloversville Police Department has never been stronger.  District staff worked seamlessly with their officers to gain leads quickly, resulting in an arrest by this evening, less than 12 hours after the initial report.

As a community, we must never let such vile behavior promulgate a culture of collective fear.   Together we must stand up and take ownership of our streets and look out for our neighbors to ensure our community is one in which predators will never operate freely.

Sincerely,

David Halloran

Superintendent of Schools
