GESD Little Free Libraries get brand new books thanks to

Stewart’s Holiday Match Program.

A pallet of 1500 new Disney books arrived last week to refresh the GESD’s eight Little Free Libraries thanks to a Stewart’s Holiday Match Grant.

Boulevard’s Little Free Library Stewards Kathy Brabant and Victoria Wilgocki stock the new books in their Little Free Library.

Thanks to donations from administrators, staff, and community members, GESD purchased and installed eight Little Free Libraries last summer. The effort is part of the District’s Talking is Teaching initiative to help families build a solid literacy skills foundation before children enter school by simply talking, reading, and singing to them.  The Libraries provide access to free books 24/7 at all four elementary schools, in Castiglione Memorial Park downtown, Spring Street Park, the Freemont Street Community Garden, and Elk Street Park. The Libraries are tended regularly by 17 GESD employees that serve as stewards for their libraries.  Anyone wishing to donate books to the program is invited to drop them off at Boulevard School.  For more information on the GESD Talking is Teaching campaign, please visit the Talking is Teaching link at gesdk12.org.
