Writing Their Own Secret Story

As part of the K-2 curriculum this year, scholars in Gloversville have been learning and practicing phonics skills through a resource called "Secret Stories." Skills are taught through fun little stories about letter sounds and combinations. As part of the resource, classroom teachers were provided with visual posters with illustrations of each story. Scholars in Ms. Carney's class at Kingsborough have really enjoyed these fun and interactive stories as they have been excited each and every week to learn a new skill. Recently, the class was introduced to the last secret story and were disappointed there were no more. However, they decided that a story was missing for the "whiny a" skill. Scholars worked together in pairs to make new posters and as a class community came up with a new story! Learning phonics skills through "Secret Stories" has been so much fun as scholars have improved their phonics knowledge. Way to go, first graders! We are proud of you.
