GESD'S Code of Conduct for the 2025-2026 Scholastic Year

In school districts everywhere — including ours — you’ll find fun incentives and recognition for great attendance. And there should be! Celebrating consistency helps build momentum. But more important than any award is the reason behind them.

At Gloversville Enlarged School District, we want our families and scholars to understand why attendance truly matters — not just for a marking period or a school year, but for a future that extends far beyond the curriculum. Every day a scholar is in class is a day of growth: academically, emotionally, and socially. Every day missed is an opportunity lost — one that can’t be fully made up. You can catch up on assignments, but you can’t recreate the class discussion, the teacher’s explanation, or that “aha” moment.

It’s not just a lesson that’s missed. It’s the questions, the conversations, the inside jokes, the group work, the hands-on experiences — and the quiet confidence that builds from simply showing up. Being present consistently is the cornerstone of success in any walk of life, no matter how big or small the endeavor.

Attendance is about more than meeting a number — it’s about building ownership, self-discipline, and the habit of showing up. Whether you're planning for the next grade, college, a trade, or a job, consistency is a skill that is required for all. Scholars who attend regularly are far more likely to stay on track — not just academically, but socially as well, through extracurricular activities, friendships, and hobbies.

We recognize that life is complex. Illness, family challenges, and mental health are very real. This is not an article about blame — it's about support. If your family is struggling with attendance this school year, please reach out. We are here to help.

Starting this school year, we will be highlighting scholar voices — real stories and reflections from those who made the choice to show up, even on the hard days. It’s not about perfection — it’s about progress.

Let’s keep building a community of consistency and growth — because when scholars are present, they thrive. And that’s something worth showing up for.
