Giving Back

"Mom, I want to help."

Earlier this week, one of our incoming second-grade scholars, Danalyn Ugalde, said something to her mother that every parent hopes to hear: “Mom, I want to help.”

Danalyn had a goal—to make sure families and fellow scholars in need received school supplies for the upcoming 2025–2026 school year. She came up with a simple but powerful idea: selling candy bars to raise money for the cause. But she didn’t stop at just having the idea—Danalyn immediately got to work, going door-to-door and letting her community members know about the fundraiser she organized all by herself.

Her determination quickly paid off. Thanks to her hard work and heartfelt mission, she’s already raised enough to sponsor two scholar in our community—and she’s not done yet. Her original goal was to support one boy and one girl, but with the momentum she’s built, there’s no telling how many young scholars she may be able to help.

It is deeply touching and truly inspiring to see one of our own scholars take initiative, out of pure kindness, to lift others up. These are the stories—the small yet powerful acts of compassion and leadership—that further remind us why we are so proud to be apart of our GESD community, past and present.

Word has quickly spread about our second-grade scholar’s efforts, and Rossbach has donated a gift card to support her. Plus, Shekinah Witcher from LuLaRoe will hold a fundraiser the first week of August, with LuLaRoe matching all the proceeds!
