🚍✨ April was School Bus Safety Awareness Month — and one of our amazing bus drivers, Gloria Sutler, decided to celebrate in a special way! She held a School Bus Safety Drawing Contest with her elementary scholars, encouraging them to think creatively about how to stay safe on the bus. Gloria and her bus attendant, Sandy Town, teamed up to select a winner — and even pitched in together to buy a special gift! 🎁 🎨 Congratulations to Joseph Morey, the winning artist! 🌟 Scholar Spotlight! 🌟 Mrs. Jacques would like to give a big shoutout to two very special 1st grade scholars — Kinsley Skonieczny and Spencer Betancur! These two amazing scholars come to school each day with bright smiles and an eagerness to learn. They are always active participants in classroom discussions, sharing thoughtful ideas and bringing positivity to the group. Kinsley and Spencer are not only respectful, responsible, and reliable — they are also incredible role models for their peers. They go out of their way to help others and are true friends to all! Outside the classroom, Kinsley loves diving into chapter books and playing with her toys, while Spencer enjoys dance class and spending time with her Barbie dolls. Keep up the hard work, scholars! 📚✨ Poetry Comes to Life in the Library! ✨📚 This week, Mrs. Codding’s ELA 10 classes spent meaningful time in the school library analyzing poetry and crafting vivid, sensory-rich poems of their own. 📝 As part of a powerful fishbowl activity, students explored various aspects of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poem "In the Library" by Charles Simic. In honor of National Therapy Animal Day, GESD music teacher, Ann Trojan, had the privilege of joining Assemblyman Robert Smullen and Assemblyman Chris Tague who co-sponsored Legislative Resolution 397 to proclaim April 30, 2025 as National Therapy Animal Day in New York State, which was unanimously approved by members of the Assembly! Trojan says, “It was an honor and privilege to be a guest on the Assembly floor today with both Assemblyman. I am beyond thrilled the Assembly recognizes the importance Therapy Animals play in our lives! I have witnessed the positive impact that Gabe has made on both staff and scholars over the past year and a half. Just imagine what the world would be like if every work place had a Therapy Animal!” As Assemblyman Tague read today, “ For individuals facing challenges - be it illness, trauma, or loneliness- the unconditional love and gentle support of a therapy animal can be transformative. Therapy animals offer a unique form of emotional support, bridging communication gaps and fostering connections. They are ambassadors of hope, reminding us of the healing power of nature and the profound bond we share with the animal kingdom. So let’s take this day to express our gratitude to those remarkable creatures and the dedicated people who work alongside them, making a real difference in the lives of others.”

🧬🔬 Edible Cells in Action! 🍬🥼 In a fun and tasty science activity, Mrs. Rossi's 4th grade scholars created edible model cells using a variety of food items to represent different organelles! From gummy worms as the endoplasmic reticulum to marshmallows as the nucleus and Twizzlers for the cell membrane — their creativity (and sweet tooth) truly shined! As they built their delicious models, each scholar explained the function of every part, reinforcing their understanding of cell structure and function in the most flavorful way possible. 📡 In February, Gloversville Middle School scholars got a unique opportunity to connect with the world—literally! Thanks to a special contest, scholars were introduced to the world of HAM radio, using real equipment right at their school to talk with licensed operators across the country. Members of the Tryon Amateur Radio Club were on-site, guiding scholars through the process and sharing their passion for radio communication. These dedicated operators not only mentor young minds but also serve the community by providing emergency communication during disasters, supporting public events, and promoting STEM education. 📚✨ What’s That on the Sidewalk?! ✨📚 It’s Mrs. Codding's Annual Sidewalk Poetry Day — and it was nothing short of incredible! 🗓 When: Wednesday, 4/23/25 👥 Who: Our ELA 9 and ELA 10 scholars ✍️ What: A celebration of poetic voices, creativity, and self-expression Grade 9 scholars crafted Diamante Poetry — beautiful diamond-shaped poems that don’t rhyme but shine with powerful imagery and contrasting subjects. Grade 10 scholars created Where I’m From Poetry — deeply personal pieces rooted in memory, setting, and everyday details that shape identity. 📝 The process? Discussion ➡️ Drafting ➡️ Revising ➡️ Editing ➡️ Peer Feedback ➡️ Final Approval ➡️ Sidewalk Showcase! They used tools like thesaurus.com to elevate their language and collaborated thoughtfully with peers to refine their pieces. 🌟 Sidewalk Poetry Day continues to be a GHS tradition that brings words to life — literally. Seeing our scholars’ creativity on full display is a reminder of the talent, effort, and heart that lives within our classrooms.
