📚✨ Poetry Comes to Life in the Library! ✨📚
This week, Mrs. Codding’s ELA 10 classes spent meaningful time in the school library analyzing poetry and crafting vivid, sensory-rich poems of their own. 📝
As part of a powerful fishbowl activity, students explored various aspects of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poem "In the Library" by Charles Simic. Inspired by his work, scholars wrote their own original poems centered around the theme of the library. 📖💭
Both Period 2 and Period 3 had standout poets whose creative work will be proudly displayed in the hallway case near the library — the perfect place to showcase their voices.
🏅 Period 2 ELA 10 Winners:
• Winning Poet: Destiney Conard
• 1st Runner-Up: Brayden Brown
• 2nd Runner-Up: Julia Gillis
🏅 Period 3 ELA 10 Winners:
• Winning Poet: Tyler Meier
• 1st Runner-Up: Corina Denier
• 2nd Runner-Up: Hailey Poultney
📸 Swipe to see Brayden & Julia in one photo, and Tyler & Hailey in another!
(Note: Corina Denier and Destiney Conard preferred not to be photographed.)
Incredible job to all our young writers — your words truly brought the library to life! 💙 #PoetryInMotion #ELAWins #GloversvilleScholars #StudentVoices #LibraryInspiration

📚✨ What’s That on the Sidewalk?! ✨📚
It’s Mrs. Codding's Annual Sidewalk Poetry Day — and it was nothing short of incredible!
🗓 When: Wednesday, 4/23/25
👥 Who: Our ELA 9 and ELA 10 scholars
✍️ What: A celebration of poetic voices, creativity, and self-expression
Grade 9 scholars crafted Diamante Poetry — beautiful diamond-shaped poems that don’t rhyme but shine with powerful imagery and contrasting subjects.
Grade 10 scholars created Where I’m From Poetry — deeply personal pieces rooted in memory, setting, and everyday details that shape identity.
📝 The process?
Discussion ➡️ Drafting ➡️ Revising ➡️ Editing ➡️ Peer Feedback ➡️ Final Approval ➡️ Sidewalk Showcase!
They used tools like thesaurus.com to elevate their language and collaborated thoughtfully with peers to refine their pieces.
🌟 Sidewalk Poetry Day continues to be a GHS tradition that brings words to life — literally. Seeing our scholars’ creativity on full display is a reminder of the talent, effort, and heart that lives within our classrooms.
Huge shoutout to Mrs. Codding for leading this inspiring experience and to all of our scholars who showed up with their best: determination, respect, creativity, and thoughtfulness. 💫
👏 Way to go, GHS! Let the words lead the way. #SidewalkPoetryDay #GHSscholars #CreativityInAction #ELAExcellence

🌟 Scholar Spotlight: EthanJames Husted 🌟
We’re celebrating a standout scholar who truly embodies creativity, commitment, and character!
EthanJames stepped out of his comfort zone to join the OVA Graphic Arts Team—and we’re so glad he did! He tried his hand at 3D modeling and took the lead on designing the main product logos, showing not just talent but also the courage to try something new. His efforts helped our team win the coveted NYSATA OVA Overall Hyndman Creativity Award for Graphic Design!
He’s also a vital force in the Yearbook Club, always ready to pitch in wherever he’s needed—from layout design to snapping photos at school events as part of the GMS Paparazzi team 📸.

Thanks for all you do, Ethan James! Your creativity and dedication make a real difference!

📚✨ Mrs. Freebern and Mrs. Mulligan's U.S. History class took a step back in time this week as they dove into one of America's most debated eras — Prohibition! 🚫🍷
Scholars were divided into teams to debate the pros and cons of the 18th Amendment. Each team worked collaboratively to:
✅ Develop strong opening arguments
📄 Analyze primary source documents from the era
🎤 Prepare powerful rebuttals to defend their stance
From spirited discussions to thoughtful historical insights, these young historians brought the 1920s to life in our classroom. We’re proud of their hard work, critical thinking, and teamwork! 👏🇺🇸

🚨 Future in the Trades! 🛠️✨
Last week, about 30 juniors and seniors from GHS had an amazing opportunity to visit Crisafulli Brothers' Albany office!
These scholars got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep the Capital Region running—touring the office, training facility, warehouse, and busy loading dock.
After the tour, they headed to the training room, rolled up their sleeves, and dove into some hands-on activities to experience the trades in action 💪. And of course, they refueled with some delicious pizza 🍕!
A huge thank you to Crisafulli Brothers for sharing your passion and opening your doors to the next generation. You’ve truly inspired our scholars and shown them the exciting opportunities in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical careers! 👷♀️👷♂️🔧💡🔥

🌎🎉 Spanish Scholars Take on UAlbany! 🎉🌎
Mrs. Barranco’s Spanish 4 and Spanish 5 scholars (SUNY college-level courses) had an exciting opportunity to participate in Spanish Day at the University at Albany!
During the event, scholars put their Spanish language skills to the test, deepened their understanding of Hispanic culture, and even learned some lively Latin dance moves! 💃🕺 It was a fun, educational experience that brought language and culture to life outside the classroom.
¡Qué experiencia increíble! 🇪🇸🌟
