Dear Parent/Guardian,
Gloversville Enlarged School District will be using a new parent app, Stopfinder, for the upcoming school
year. Stopfinder is the easy-to-use, all-in-one app that allows for the most accurate information about a
scholar’s bus schedule at any time from anywhere.
You have been selected to participate in a pilot of this new feature. As part of our pilot program, your
participation will ensure that parents and guardians are receiving data as intended. This includes the
initial invite being formatted in a user-friendly way, Announcements received in a reasonable time
frame, and receiving GeoAlerts Alert notifications for your child.
Upon first log in, the Primary Subscriber can see the scholars’ schedule in the app in what is called the
“Student Card.” You will then also have the opportunity to set up a GeoAlert Alert Zone. Please
watch this video to learn more about the features of Stopfinder GeoAlerts.
Stopfinder requires an invite and registration through the district before accessing the scholar’s
transportation schedule. Please watch for a Stopfinder invitation, which will be sent to your
selected email address by Friday, June 6, 2025
Thank you,
Kirsten Tompson

Second graders at Park Terrace and Kingsborough have been corresponding all year through a letter writing activity facilitated by the school librarians. This week they met face to face for the first time! The planned picnic was held indoors due to the rain but fun was had by all. The pen pal activity is just one of the transition activities we hold to support our second graders in making a successful transition to third grade Boulevard Elementary school.

🎨🐾 Thank You, SPCA, The Chamber of Commerce, and our GESD Artists! 🐾🎨
A huge round of applause to all the GESD students who participated in the PAWtraits Project; your creativity, compassion, and talent brought so much joy to our community.
All of your whimsical portraits of shelter dogs from our local SPCA were incredible. Whether you sketched, painted, colored, or Photoshopped; every piece helped tell a story, and made a difference.
This labor of love was made possible through a beautiful partnership between the SPCA, the Chamber of Commerce, our GESD art educators, and of course, YOU; our amazing student artists.
While the exhibit has wrapped up its time at the Chamber, don't worry… these PAWtraits will be on display again this summer at the annual SPCA Woofstock event! And yes, student artwork remains for sale, with all proceeds benefiting our local shelter. (Reserve your favorite pr@fcrspca.org)🐶❤️

📚✨ Learning can be hands-on AND fun!
Not sure if you’re still collecting photos, but I had to share what my 3rd grade WIN group has been up to! Today, we focused on digraphs—specifically “sh” words. Each scholar used Play-Doh to form the letters of their word, then built it, sounded it out, and used it in a sentence.
We wrapped up by reading our sentences aloud and reviewing capitalization and punctuation together. The kids were so engaged—and had an absolute blast doing it!

Today was Letter Day in Miss.Swank and Miss. Morino’s fourth grade class! Students wrote kind letters to a class mate and got to share them with the class❤️ this was a great way to show appreciation for each other and a wonderful exercise that encourages positive relationships in the classroom!

NY-49 State Senator
Mark Walczyk
FOR RELEASE: Immediate, June 3, 2025
SENATOR WALCZYK APPLAUDS GLOVERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS DURING NATIONAL PREVENTION WEEK
On May 9th, as part of National Prevention Week, students from Gloversville Enlarged School District sat down with Senator Mark Walczyk at the NYS Capitol. During their visit, students highlighted the vital importance of prevention efforts aimed at reducing substance use and promoting positive mental health in our communities.
National Prevention Week serves as a public education platform to showcase the incredible work of organizations and advocates dedicated to preventing substance misuse and fostering mental well-being. Sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this initiative is instrumental in advancing the behavioral health of our nation.
Recent data from the Gloversville Youth Survey reveals promising trends in reducing substance use among local students, notably when many school districts are seeing rising numbers. The percentage of students in grades 6-12 reporting alcohol use in the past 30 days has dropped from 20.9% in 2018 to 11.8% in 2024. Similarly, e-cigarette use has decreased from 22.6% to 14.9%, and cigarette smoking has fallen from 3.4% to 2%. Marijuana use has also decreased from 15.9% to 13.3%, although the use of vape marijuana rose slightly from 5.9% to 7.3%.
Lifetime use statistics reflect this positive shift as well, with alcohol use declining from 33% in 2018 to 25.4% in 2024. The percentage of students who have tried e-cigarettes has decreased from 26.2% to 21.1%, and marijuana use has fallen from 23.2% to 18.2%. Notably, lifetime use of vape marijuana has dropped from 14.6% to 7.3%.
While the recent increase in reported vaping marijuana is concerning, the overall decline in other categories demonstrates the effectiveness of educational programs and community support in promoting healthier choices. These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and commitment of Gloversville High School students and the advocacy groups supporting them.
“Gloversville High School student advocates are truly making a remarkable impact in their community, and I couldn’t be prouder to see the positive changes reflected in these impressive statistics. While other communities are experiencing rising substance use rates, Gloversville is achieving the exact opposite. The hard work and dedication demonstrated by these students are nothing short of inspiring. Their unwavering commitment to prevention and healthier choices speaks volumes about their character and the nurturing environment created by local advocates and recovery organizations. These students have not only embraced the importance of their well-being but have also taken on the responsibility of being role models for their peers and I commend each one of them for their remarkable achievements.”

Mr. Sayward's Academic Support had the opportunity to engage in an activity that Ms. Lindsey designed - an escape room-type of activity through Breakout EDU. Team members had to collaborate and use critical thinking skills to figure out clues and "break-out" of the locked boxes that they were given!

Scholars in Ms. Kane's 4th grade class collaborated together to design circuits to power a light bulb using a battery, wires and switches. As students worked together to design, test and analyze electrical circuits, they were able to deepen their understand through critical problem solving, communication and collaboration.

Have fun, make friends, & get ready for kindergarten!

The stage was set for an electrifying showdown as the two top-seeded teams in their division clashed in the highly anticipated Unified Basketball Championship at MVP Arena.
We are incredibly proud of our Gloversville Dragons for their outstanding performance and teamwork, earning second place in a thrilling match against Hoosick Falls. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and supporters for an unforgettable season!

Scholars at Park Terrace gathered together for a school-wide "Buzzy Bash." As a part of the school's Positive Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative, the school set a goal to earn 20,000 Buzzy Bucks as a school community. The scholars have already exceeded the goal with over 27,000 Buzzy Bucks so far this year and celebrated the achievement with some fun outdoor time with the whole school. Thank you to our custodian, Joe Morell, for the great photo of our whole school family!

It is an exciting time of year when our Kindergarteners become readers! Mrs Zucker's class enjoyed re-reading to stuffed versions of their favorite story characters: Kit, Seth, Sam, and Zack. They also searched for tricky words and practiced writing them.

During May, scholars at Park Terrace learned about teamwork and cooperation. Scholars who showed outstanding teamwork this month were honored as "Scholars of the Month" at an assembly yesterday.
